Stitching Instructions for Making Terrifying T-Rex Pattern:
Body (Make 2 Panels):
- Start the first body panel:
- With body color yarn (Generic cotton yarn), ch 15.
- Row 1: In the 2nd ch from the hook, SC across (14). Turn.
- Row 2-20: Ch 1, turn, SC across (14). Repeat for a total of 20 rows.
- Row 21: Ch 1, turn, SC across, leaving the last stitch unworked. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Repeat the same process for the second body panel.
(You should have two identical body panels once completed.)
Spikes (Make 7-8):
- With Robin’s Egg yarn, ch 3.
- Rnd 1: In the 2nd ch from hook, 2 SC. In the next ch, 2 SC. In the last ch, 3 SC. Now turn and work down the opposite side of the foundation chain. (You’ll be working in the round.)
- Rnd 2: In the first stitch, 3 SC, then SC in the next 2 stitches. 2 SC in the last stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Repeat until you have 7-8 spikes depending on your preference.
(The spikes will be attached along the back of the body later.)
Legs (Make 2):
- With body color yarn, ch 7.
- Rnd 1: In the 2nd ch from hook, SC across (6). Turn.
- Rnd 2-7: Ch 1, SC across (6). Repeat for a total of 6 rounds.
- After completing the last round, fold the piece in half to form the leg. SC across the open edge (6 stitches). Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Repeat for the second leg.
(You should now have two legs, and these will be sewn to the body later.)
Arms (Make 2):
- With body color yarn, ch 5.
- Rnd 1: In the 2nd ch from hook, SC across (4). Turn.
- Rnd 2-5: Ch 1, SC across (4). Repeat for a total of 4 rounds.
- Once you’ve completed the rounds, fold the piece in half and SC the edges together to form the arm shape. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Repeat for the second arm.
(The arms should be slightly smaller than the legs and will be sewn onto the body later.)
Assembly:
- Attach the Body Panels:
- Line up the two body panels with the wrong sides facing each other.
- Use SC to join them together around the edges, leaving a small gap at the top for stuffing.
- Before closing the gap, stuff the body lightly with stuffing to give it some shape and firmness.
- SC across the remaining opening to close it completely. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Attach the Legs:
- Position the legs at the bottom of the body. The legs should be placed on the front side of the body.
- Using a tapestry needle, sew the legs onto the body securely. You can add a little stuffing to the legs for extra shape if desired. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Attach the Arms:
- Position the arms on either side of the body, just below the neck area.
- Use the tapestry needle to sew them into place. Again, you can optionally stuff the arms lightly before sewing. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Attach the Spikes:
- Position the spikes along the back of the body, starting at the neck and moving down towards the tail.
- Sew each spike securely into place using a tapestry needle. Space them evenly for a symmetrical look.
Facial Features:
- Eyes:
- Use safety eyes (optional) or embroidery thread to stitch eyes.
- Position the eyes on the head towards the upper portion. If using embroidery, make small black circles with a few stitches.
- Mouth and Nostrils:
- Using black embroidery thread, stitch a small smiling mouth shape on the face.
- For nostrils, make tiny vertical stitches near the top of the snout for a subtle detail.
- (Feel free to get creative with the facial expression for a more terrifying look.)
Hair Bow (Optional):
- With Pale Yellow yarn, ch 8.
- Row 1: SC across (7), turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, SC across (7). Repeat for a total of 4 rows.
- Once you’ve completed the rows, fold the piece into a bow shape.
- Use a small piece of yarn to tie the center of the bow securely. This will form a 3D effect.
- Sew the bow to the top of the head or wherever you prefer on your T-Rex.
Finishing Touches:
- Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.
- Ensure all pieces are securely attached.
- If you like, you can add additional details, such as teeth (small white beads or stitches), claws on the arms or legs, or texture on the spikes using embroidery.
