Stitching Instructions for Making the 3-Hour Afghan Pattern:

Foundation Chain:

  • Begin by chaining 57.
  • If you want a different width, use any multiple of 3, then add 3 extra chains.

Row 1: Single Crochet Base Row

  • Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook and work 1 sc.
  • Continue to work 1 sc in each chain across the entire row.
  • You should have 56 sc at the end of this row.

Join the second color:

  • On the last sc, do not complete the stitch. Stop when you have 2 loops on your hook.
  • Pull the second color through these 2 loops to finish the stitch.
  • Turn your work.

Row 2: Creating the Cluster Pattern

  • Using the new color, ch 3 (this counts as the first dc).
  • Sk the next st, then work 3 dc in the next st (this forms the first cluster).

Repeat the following sequence across the row:

  • Sk the next 2 sts, then work 3 dc in the next st.
  • Continue this pattern until only 2 sts remain.
  • Sk the next st, then work 1 dc in the last st.

Join the next color:

  • When completing the last dc, stop when 2 loops remain on your hook.
  • Pull the new color through these loops to finish the stitch.
  • Turn your work.

Row 3: Continuing the Cluster Pattern

  • Ch 3 (this counts as the first dc).
  • Sk the first dc (from the cluster below), and work 3 dc in the middle dc of the first cluster from the previous row.

Repeat the following sequence across the row:

  • Sk the next 2 dc, then work 3 dc in the middle dc of the next cluster.
  • Continue this pattern until only 2 sts remain.
  • Sk the next st, then work 1 dc in the top of the beginning ch-3.
  • Join the next color using the method described in Row 2.
  • Turn your work.

Repeat Row 3:

  • Continue working in this cluster pattern (3-dc clusters in the middle dc of the cluster below) for the entire length of the blanket.
  • Alternate colors at the end of every row for a striped effect.
  • Ensure that you join the new color securely at the end of each row to avoid loose stitches.

Key Points for Success:

  • Align each 3-dc cluster in the middle dc of the cluster below to maintain the triangular design.
  • Pull the new yarn color snugly to prevent gaps when changing colors.
  • Maintain even tension throughout to keep the edges straight.

Final Rows:

  • Once your blanket reaches 36 inches or your desired length, complete the last row and fasten off the yarn.
  • Trim excess yarn.

Finishing Touches:

  • Use the I (5.5mm) hook to weave in all yarn tails securely.
  • Weave tails along the tops of the triangle clusters rather than their bases for a cleaner, seamless finish.
