Stitching Instructions for Making the Two Hour C2C Crochet Blanket Pattern:
Step 1: Foundation and Starting Corner
- Chain 3 (Ch 3) – Begin by creating a slip knot and chaining 3 stitches.
- Single Crochet (Sc) into the second chain from the hook and again into the next chain. This completes your first small square block for the corner.
- Turn your work, ready to begin the next row.
Step 2: Increasing the Blanket Size
For C2C crochet, the blanket grows diagonally, starting from one corner and working outward.
- Row 2:
- Ch 3 – This creates the height for the new block.
- Work 2 Sc into the base of the chain space from the previous row.
- Sl St into the first block’s top edge to join.
- You now have two connected blocks forming the second row.
- Row 3 and Beyond:
- Start each row by Ch 3 to create a new block.
- Work 2 Sc into the base of the chain space of the previous row.
- Sl St into the top of the next block from the previous row to join the new block.
- Repeat this process until you’ve added blocks across the row.
- Note: As you increase, each row will have one more block than the previous row.
- Continue increasing until your blanket reaches its widest diagonal point. For this pattern, you’ll work until the width and height both measure approximately 54 inches.
Step 3: Decreasing for the Opposite Corner
Once your blanket reaches the desired width and height, you’ll start decreasing rows to taper the blanket toward the opposite corner.
- Row Decreases:
- At the beginning of the row, Sl St across the top of the first block. This positions your hook for the next block.
- Work Ch 3, then 2 Sc into the base of the chain space.
- Sl St into the next block to join.
- Unlike the increasing rows, do not add a new block at the end of the row.
- Continue this process for each row:
- Decrease one block per row by starting with Sl St into the previous block.
- Work Ch 3, 2 Sc, and Sl St to form and join the remaining blocks for that row.
- Keep decreasing until only one block remains.
Step 4: Finishing the Blanket
- After completing the final block (the opposite corner), fasten off by cutting the yarn, leaving a 6–8 inch tail.
- Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends securely along the back of the stitches.
Optional Border (Adds a Polished Look)
When you’d like a neat border around your blanket:
- Single Crochet Border:
- Work Sc evenly around all edges of the blanket, inserting your hook into the Back Loop Only (Blo) of each stitch for texture.
- At the corners, work 3 Sc into the same stitch to maintain a smooth corner curve.
- Decrease for Tight Corners: When the corners appear too loose, work Sc2tog or Sc3tog to tighten the stitches at each corner.
- Finish the border by fastening off and weaving in the ends.
Key Tips:
- Gauge Check: Ensure that 2 stitches x 2 rows = 4 inches to maintain consistent sizing.
- Yarn Management: The Bernat Blanket Big yarn is thick, so keep your tension loose for smooth stitching.
- Quick Work: The jumbo yarn and large crochet hook (35 mm) allow for fast progress, making this a truly quick project!
