Stitching Instructions for Making Crochet Ava Fringed Poncho Pattern:
Step 1: Foundation Chain
- Start by ch the appropriate number for your size:
- XS/S: Ch 72
- M/L: Ch 84
- XL/XXL: Ch 96
- XXXL/XXXXL: Ch 108
Step 2: First Row (Foundation Row)
- Dc in the 4th ch from the hook (this will count as the first dc stitch of the row).
- Dc in each ch across the row. You should have the same number of dc as the number of chains minus 3 (for the turning chain).
Step 3: Subsequent Rows
- Ch 3 (counts as the first dc), turn your work.
- Work dc into each st across the row.
- Repeat this step for each row, making sure to work dc into each dc from the previous row.
Step 4: Continue for Desired Length
- Continue working in rows until you reach your desired length:
- XS/S: Approx. 24” (about 12 rows)
- M/L: Approx. 26” (about 13 rows)
- XL/XXL: Approx. 28” (about 14 rows)
- XXXL/XXXXL: Approx. 30” (about 15 rows)
- Note: Each row will add length, and each size corresponds to a different row count.
Step 5: Join Sides to Create the Poncho Shape
- Once the body of the poncho is complete, fold the piece in half, bringing the shorter ends together to create the neck opening.
- Using a sl st, join the sides from the bottom up. Leave an opening at the top for the neck. The neck size should be:
- XS/S: 12″
- M/L: 14″
- XL/XXL: 16″
- XXXL/XXXXL: 18″
- After the sides are joined, you should have the basic shape of the poncho with an open neck.
Step 6: Adding the Fringe
- Cut yarn pieces about 12”-15” long to create the fringe.
- Attach the fringe by folding each piece of yarn in half, then using a tapestry needle to pull the folded loop through the bottom edge of the poncho, between the dc stitches.
- Pull the ends of the yarn through the loop to secure the fringe in place. Repeat this along the entire bottom edge of the poncho, spacing the fringe evenly.
Step 7: Finish the Poncho
- Once the fringe is attached, weave in any loose ends using your tapestry needle.
- Check the fit of the poncho, and make any necessary adjustments, such as trimming the fringe to your desired length or adjusting the neck opening.
Tips for Customization:
- For a more intricate design, you can use color blocks by changing yarn colors every few rows.
- Add a border around the neck opening using sc (single crochet) to finish it off neatly.
- Adjust the fringe length based on your style preference. You can make the fringe longer or shorter for different looks.
