Stitching Instructions for Bernat Crochet Family Moccasins Pattern:
Sole (Worked in Rounds)
- Ch 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) depending on size.
- Round 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, 2 sc in the same ch, sc in the next 8 (10, 12, 14, 16) ch, 5 sc in the last ch.
Continue working along the opposite side of the foundation ch: sc in the next 8 (10, 12, 14, 16) ch, 2 sc in the last ch. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (25, 29, 33, 37, 41 sts)
- Round 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in the first st, sc in the next 10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts, 2 sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc in the next 10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts, 2 sc in the last st. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (30, 34, 38, 42, 46 sts)
- Continue increasing in this pattern for 1 (2, 2, 3, 3) more rounds or until the sole measures the desired length from the sizing chart.
Sides (Worked Flat)
- Join Bernat Pipsqueak (lining yarn) to any st on the outer edge of the sole. Ch 1, sc in each st around. Do not join; instead, turn at the end of each row.
- Work 4 (6, 8, 10, 12) rows of sc in this way to create the sides.
- Fasten off the lining yarn and reattach Bernat Softee Chunky to continue.
Top of Moccasin (Toe Cap)
- Find the center 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) sts at the top of the sole for the toe area. Mark these sts with stitch markers.
- Attach Bernat Softee Chunky to the first marked st.
- Row 1: Ch 1, sc across the marked sts. Turn.
- Rows 2–8 (or until desired coverage): Ch 1, SC2tog at the start and end of the row, sc in each st in between.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.
Heel
- With RS facing, attach Bernat Softee Chunky at the heel edge.
- Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across the heel section. Turn.
- Rows 2–6: Ch 1, SC2tog at the start and end of each row, sc in between.
- Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Finishing and Assembly
- Use a tapestry needle to sew the toe and heel sections to the sole.
- Weave in all ends.
- Add any embellishments like a decorative chain stitch across the top, or pom-poms for fun accents.
