Teal (top) → White (middle) → Navy (bottom)
  2. Sew panels together using a ¼″ seam allowance.
  3. Press seams upward and topstitch along each seam for a clean, professional finish.
  4. Place each completed panel onto the foam stabilizer.
  5. Baste around edges (⅛″–¼″ from edge).
  6. Cut out 2″ squares from the bottom corners (for boxed corners).

Step 2: Attach the Recessed Zipper

Attach the Recessed Zipper
  1. Place one lining piece right side up.
  2. Lay the zipper on top, right side up, aligned with the top edge.
  3. Place a teal zipper strip right side down on top.
  4. Stitch along edge (¼″ seam).
  5. Flip the strip upward and topstitch near the seam.
  6. Repeat for the other side with the remaining lining and strip.
  7. Cut 2″ squares from the bottom corners of the lining pieces.

Step 3: Assemble Bag Body

Assemble Bag Body

Exterior:

  • Place pieces right sides together
  • Sew sides and bottom with ½″ seam allowance

Lining:

  • Repeat the same steps
  • Leave a 6″ opening at the bottom for turning

Step 4: Box the Corners

Box the Corners
  1. Align the side seam with the bottom seam at each corner.
  2. Flatten and pin.
  3. Stitch across using ½″ seam allowance.

This creates depth and structure.

Step 5: Make the Handles

Make the Handles
  1. Fold ends inward by ½″.
  2. Fold the strip lengthwise in half.
  3. Fold raw edges into the center and press.
  4. Insert foam/batting strip inside.
  5. Topstitch around edges (⅛″ from edge).

Tip: Use a walking foot for smoother stitching.

Step 6: Add Optional Label

Add Optional Label
  • Center leather label on the teal section
  • Topstitch securely in place

Step 7: Attach Handles

Attach Handles
  • Position handles:
    • 4″ from side seams
    • 2″ above color seam (teal/white line)
  • Stitch a 1″ square with an “X” inside for strength
  • Sew twice for durability

Step 8: Join Lining and Exterior

Join Lining and Exterior
  1. Turn exterior right side out
  2. Keep lining inside out
  3. Insert exterior into lining (right sides together)
  4. Align top edges and pin
  5. Sew around top with ½″ seam allowance

Make sure zipper is open before sewing!

Step 9: Turn the Bag

  1. Pull bag through lining opening
  2. Push lining inside bag
  3. Close opening using:
    • Hand stitching, or
    • Machine stitch close to edge

  • Topstitch ¼″ from top edge

Step 11: Add Rivets (Optional)
