Round-by-Round Directions for Making Black Cat Slouch Hat Pattern:
Foundation Row (Work in fsc):
- Ch 12.
- Work 12 foundation single crochets (fsc) into the chain (or use chain + sc to create a starting foundation).
Tip: The foundation row should measure approximately 11″ (28 cm) when stretched to fit the head comfortably.
Round 1:

Shaping the Slouch:
- Once you reach the desired height, switch to half double crochet (hdc) to create a ribbed effect and finish the slouchy look.
Note: To switch to hdc:
- Ch 2 at the start of each round.
- Work hdc into each stitch around and join with a sl st to the top of the first hdc.
- Continue for 2-3 rounds to create a comfortable, relaxed fit.
Finishing the Hat:
