Stitching Instructions for Chic Modern Mosaic Blocks Throw Pattern:

Setup Rows:

  • Setup Row 1 (RS): Start with Color A (Platinum) and chain 174 stitches, which is a multiple of 10 + 3 (plus 1 turning chain). Work 173 single crochets (sc) into the chain.
  • Setup Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each of the 173 sc to the end of the row.

Main Stitch Pattern:

The pattern is worked in a repeating block pattern over 12 rows. The following rows include a mix of single crochet, chain spaces, special double crochet (Sp-dc), and double crochet (dc), with the colors changing every few rows.

  • Row 1 (RS): Work sc in the first sc, followed by a sequence of sc in next 3 sc, ch 2, sk 1 sc (repeated 16 times). Finish the row with sc in last 2 sc.
  • Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc in the first 2 sc, then sc in next 2 sc, [ch 2, sc in next 3 sc] twice (repeat this sequence for the entire row). Change to Color B (Lace) on the last sc.
  • Row 3 (RS): Begin with sc in first sc, then sc in next 2 sc, ch 2, sk 1 sc, followed by a Sp-dc (special double crochet).

The Sp-dc is worked 3 rows below, which creates the mosaic effect. Repeat the pattern, finishing with sc in last 2 sc.

  • Row 4 (WS): Work sc in the first 2 sc, then sc in next sc, ch 2, sc in next (dc, 3 sc, dc), followed by ch 2 and sc in next 2 sc. Repeat this for the entire row. Change to Color A (Platinum) at the end of the row.
  • Row 5 (RS): Start with sc in first sc, then ch 3, skip 2 sc. The main pattern for this row is Sp-dc, followed by sc in next 5 sc, and ch 4, skip 3 sc. Continue this sequence, omitting the final ch 4, skip 3 sc at the end of the row.
  • Row 6 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, then ch 3, followed by sc in next (dc, 5 sc, dc) and ch 4. Repeat this sequence for the entire row, changing to Color B (Lace) at the end of the row.
  • Row 7 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, then [Sp-dc] twice, ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next 5 sc, and Sp-dc. Repeat for the entire row.
  • Row 8 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, then sc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sc in next 5 sc, and ch 2, sc in next 2 dc. Finish with sc in last sc, changing to Color A (Platinum).
  • Row 9 (RS): Start with sc in first sc, then sc in next 2 sc, Sp-dc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, followed by sc in next 3 sc. Repeat this pattern for the entire row.
  • Row 10 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first 3 sc, sc in next dc, ch 2, and sc in next 3 sc. Continue repeating the pattern to the end of the row, changing to Color B (Lace) at the end.

Repeating the Block:

The pattern repeats over Rows 3-14, creating a block of mosaic design. Repeat the pattern a total of 22 times, then work rows 3-10 once more to complete the final row.

Finishing Touches:

  • Join Colors: After finishing the last row of the mosaic design, join Color B (Lace) with a slip stitch in the back loop of the 4th sc of the row, creating a nice transition for the final border.
  • Final Row (RS): Work Sp-dc followed by ch 4, skip 3 and continue this sequence across the row.
  • Last Rows (WS): Join Color A (Platinum) with sc in the first 3 sc of row 10 and continue through to the end of the row.

Border:

  • Rnd 1: Start by joining Color A (Platinum) at the top right corner of the piece. Work sc, ch 1, sc in each corner and sc along the edges, skipping one sc as necessary. Complete this round and join with a slip stitch.
  • Rnd 2: Sl st in corner space, then work sc, ch 1, sc in each corner and ch 1, sk sc along the edges. Repeat this round, joining with a slip stitch.
  • Rnds 3-4: Repeat the same pattern, working with Color B (Lace) for Rnd 4.
  • Rnd 5-11: Continue working with Color A (Platinum) for several rounds, finishing with a clean border.

Fasten off when complete.
