Stitching Instructions for Citrus Coaster Pattern:

Round 1: Foundation Round

  • Instructions: Start with a magic circle to form the center of the coaster. Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 6 sc directly into the magic circle.

Pull the loose yarn tail to tighten the circle completely, closing the center hole. Join the round with a sl st into the first sc. This creates a small circular base. [6 sts]

Round 2: Increasing Round

  • Instructions: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 2 sc in each st around. This round doubles the stitch count by placing 2 sc into each of the 6 stitches from the previous round.

Join with a sl st into the first sc. At the end of this round, the coaster begins to expand into a small flat disc. [12 sts]

Round 3: Base Expansion

  • Instructions: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), (1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat around.

This round continues to widen the coaster by alternating between single stitches and increases.

Join with a sl st to the first sc. The edges of the coaster should now be more defined and evenly rounded. [18 sts]

Round 4: Decorative Base

  • Instructions: Ch 2 (counts as the first dc), work 1 dc in the same st as the join. Work 1 dc in the next st, then 2 dc in the next st.

Repeat this sequence (1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st) all the way around. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch-2. This round gives the coaster a slightly raised and textured appearance. [27 sts]

Round 5: Textured Cluster Stitch

  • Instructions:Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch).(Work 1 cl in the next st, ch 1) repeat around. To create the cl stitch:
    • Yarn over, insert the hook into the indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops.
    • Repeat this step twice more into the same stitch, leaving the last loop of each incomplete. You should now have four loops on your hook.
    • Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook. Continue working the cl stitches with a ch 1 between each for spacing. Join with a sl st to the top of the first cl. This round adds texture and visual interest to the coaster. [27 cl, 27 ch spaces]

Round 6: Final Edge

  • Instructions: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), (1 sc in each cl and each ch space) repeat around. This round creates a smooth, finished edge by working single crochet stitches into every cl and ch space from the previous round.

Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off and secure the yarn by weaving in the ends using a tapestry needle. [54 sts]

Finishing Touches:

  • Gently block the coaster if necessary, using steam or a damp cloth to smooth and shape it into a perfect circle.
  • Use a tapestry needle to weave in any remaining yarn tails, ensuring they are securely hidden.
  • Your Citrus Coaster is complete and ready to use!
