Instructions for Crochet Bulky Mosaic Beanie Pattern:
Band:
- Begin with Yarn A. Start by creating a foundation chain according to the band circumference of your selected size.
- Work in blo for each sc row to create a stretchy ribbing effect for the band.
- Continue this sc blo until the band reaches the desired height.
- After the last row, fold the band in half with the RS facing out and use sl st to join the foundation chain to the last row, creating a loop. This will serve as the base for your beanie.
Body of the Beanie:
- Switch to Yarn B to begin the mosaic pattern.
- Row 1: Attach Yarn B at any point on the band. Ch 1, then work sc around the band, ensuring that the stitch count is a multiple of the pattern repeat.
- Row 2: With Yarn A, ch 1, sc in each st around, joining with a sl st at the end of the row.
- Row 3: Switch to Yarn B. Start with a ch 1, then work a sc in the first st. Next, work a Drop-Down Dc into the flo of the st two rows below, then sc in the next stitch on the current row. Repeat from to across, creating the mosaic pattern. Join with a sl st to finish the row.
Repeating Mosaic Pattern:
- Continue alternating between Yarn A and Yarn B with the mosaic pattern. Each row will have a combination of sc stitches and Drop-Down Dc stitches to create the design.
- For the following rows, remember:
- With Yarn A: Work a row of sc stitches in each st.
- With Yarn B: Alternate sc stitches with Drop-Down Dc stitches in the established pattern.
Shaping the Crown:
- Once the beanie reaches the desired height, begin decreasing to shape the crown.
- Work in rounds, reducing stitches by using sc2tog (single crochet decrease) at regular intervals.
- Continue decreasing until only a few stitches remain at the top.
Finishing:
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use the yarn needle to weave through the remaining stitches, pulling tightly to close the top of the beanie.
- Weave in all loose ends securely on the WS of the beanie.
Optional Pom Pom:
- Add a pom-pom if desired for an extra touch of style!
Tips for Success
- Keep an even tension throughout the project, especially in the Drop-Down Dc stitches.
- When switching yarns, carry the unused yarn along the back of the work to reduce ends to weave in later.
- Always check stitch counts to ensure the pattern aligns properly.
Happy crocheting, and enjoy your cozy, stylish beanie!
