Instructions for the Diamond Mesh Water Bottle Holder Pattern:
Begin with the Base
- Round 1: Start with a magic circle or ch 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a small ring. Ch 3 (this counts as your first double crochet), then work 11 double crochets (DC) into the ring. To close the round, join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the top of the initial chain-3. This should give you 12 double crochets in total.
- Round 2: Ch 3, then work 2 double crochets in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-3. You will now have 24 double crochets.
- Round 3: Ch 3, work 1 double crochet in the next stitch, then 2 double crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from to around. Join with a slip stitch. You will now have 36 double crochets.
Create the Mesh Pattern
- Round 4: Ch 3, then skip the next stitch (sk 1 st), double crochet (DC) in the next stitch, chain 1 (ch 1). Repeat this pattern of skipping a stitch, making a DC in the next stitch, followed by a ch 1, around the whole round.
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first chain-3. This round establishes the foundation for the mesh.
- Round 5: Ch 3, then work DC in each chain-1 space from the previous round, followed by ch 1.
Repeat this process around the entire round. Join with a slip stitch. This continues the mesh pattern, with each round becoming a bit taller as you move upward.
- Repeat this round until the holder reaches the desired height for your water bottle. You can adjust the height as needed by adding more rounds of this mesh pattern.
Add the Decorative Cross Stitch
- Cross Stitch Round: This round is optional but adds a lovely textured pattern to your holder.
Ch 3, then skip 1 stitch (sk 1 st), DC into the next stitch, and then go back and work a DC into the skipped stitch. This creates a crossing effect between the two DCs.
- Repeat this pattern around the round, making sure to skip 1 stitch before each DC and then going back to work the second DC into the skipped stitch. Once completed, join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-3.
Top Edge and Finishing
- Final Round: To finish the top of the bottle holder and give it a clean, stable edge, ch 1, then single crochet (SC) in each stitch around.
This round helps to tighten and reinforce the top of the holder. When you get back to the starting point, join with a slip stitch to the first SC.
Add the Handle (Optional)
- Handle Chain: If you want to add a handle for easy carrying, start by chaining a length that is comfortable for your desired handle size.
A good starting length is usually between 40-50 chains. Once you’ve reached the desired length, attach the chain to the opposite side of the holder with single crochet (SC) or slip stitch (sl st) to secure it.
Repeat on the other side if you want a symmetrical look, or simply leave it on one side for a convenient handle.
Finish and Secure
- Fasten Off: Once you’ve completed the last round, cut the yarn, leaving a small tail. Use a yarn needle to weave in the loose ends along the inside of the holder.
This step is important to ensure your project is tidy and that no loose ends will unravel.
- After weaving in all the ends, your Diamond Mesh Water Bottle Holder should be ready for use!
You can adjust the height or width depending on the size of your bottle, and you can experiment with different colors for the mesh pattern or handle for a more personalized look.
