Easter Chicken with Bunny Ears

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Yarn:
    • Yellow yarn (for the body and wings)
    • White yarn (for the bunny cap and ears)
    • Small amount of orange yarn (for the beak and legs)
    • Small amount of pink yarn (for blush embroidery)
  • Crochet Hook: 1.75 mm (or size suitable for your yarn)
  • Fiberfill: For stuffing the body
  • Eyes: Safety eyes or embroidered eyes (your preference)
  • Yarn Needle: For sewing pieces together
  • Scissors: For cutting yarn

Measurements:

  • Height of the toy (without ears): Approximately 9 cm (3.5 inches)
  • Height of the toy (with ears): Approximately 13 cm (5 inches)

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec = decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • FO = fasten off

Stitching Instructions for Making Easter Chicken with Bunny Ears Pattern:

Body (Yellow)

  • Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring, ch 1, and make 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st) around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st) around. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 5-8: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)

  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st) around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4-6: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 7: (Sc in next st, dec) around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 8: (Sc in next st, dec) around. (8 sts)
  • FO: Fasten off and leave a long tail. Lightly stuff and sew the ears to the top of the chicken’s head.

Bunny Cap (White)

  • Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring, ch 1, and make 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st) around. (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st) around. (24 sts)
  • Rnd 5-6: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
  • FO: Fasten off and leave a long tail. Place the cap on the chicken’s head and sew it in place.

Beak (Orange)

  • Rnd 1: Ch 2, make 3 sc in the second ch from the hook. (3 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 3: Sc in each st around. (6 sts)
  • FO: Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Attach the beak to the front of the chicken’s face.

Legs (Orange)

  • Rnd 1: Ch 2, make 6 sc in the second ch from the hook. (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st) around. (16 sts)
  • Rnd 4: Sc in each st around. (16 sts)
  • FO: Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew the legs to the bottom of the chicken.

Blush (Pink)

Using pink yarn, embroider small circles on both sides of the chicken’s face for the blush marks.

Eyes

Attach safety eyes or embroider eyes onto the face, positioning them just above the beak.

Assembly:

  • Bunny Ears: Sew the bunny ears to the top of the chicken’s head, adjusting for symmetry and positioning.
  • Bunny Cap: Position the bunny cap on the head and sew it in place.
  • Wings: Sew the wings onto each side of the chicken’s body.
  • Beak: Sew the beak below the eyes on the front of the chicken.
