Stitching Instructions for Making the Strawberry Dress Pattern:
1. Bodice
- Step 1: Foundation Chain
- Ch a length to match your bust size: Bust: 36 [38, 40, 42, 44]” Use the gauge (19 hdc = 4”) to determine the number of stitches.
- Step 2: Base Rows
- Row 1: Work 1 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook and across. Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2–14: Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (Adjust the number of rows for a longer or shorter bodice as desired.)
- Step 3: Shape the Armholes
- Row 15: Hdc across, stopping 5 sts before the end. Ch 2, turn.
- Row 16: Repeat for the other side, leaving 5 sts unworked at the beginning and end.
2. Skirt
- Step 1: Attach Yarn for Skirt
- Attach pink yarn to the bottom of the bodice with a sl st.
- Step 2: Increase for Fullness
- Row 1: Ch 2, work hdc inc in the first st, hdc across, and hdc inc in the last st. Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2: Repeat Row 1 for 4 rows to create flare.
- Step 3: Adjust Length
- Work even hdc rows until the skirt reaches your desired length. End with a sl st, fasten off.
3. Sleeves
- Step 1: Foundation Chain
- Ch a length to match your upper arm circumference + 1 cm for elastic.
- Step 2: Base Rows
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across. Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2–12: Hdc in each st across. (Adjust for longer sleeves if desired.)
- Step 3: Elastic Casing
- Fold the top edge inward by 1 cm to create a casing for the elastic. Sl st or sew in place, leaving a small gap to insert elastic.
- Thread elastic through, sew ends of the elastic together, and close the gap.
4. Appliqué and Details
- Strawberries (Optional)
- Use red yarn: Ch 4, sl st to form a loop. Work 6 sc into the loop, sl st to join. Ch 1, sc inc in each st around. Fasten off.
- Use green yarn to embroider small leaves on the top.
- Tie Cord (Optional)
- Ch a cord length sufficient to tie around your waist. Weave through the waistband or add a simple bow.
5. Assembly
- Sew the side seams of the bodice and skirt using a yarn needle.
- Attach sleeves to the armholes with sl sts.
