Stitching Instructions for Making the Easter Eggs Pattern:
Begin the Egg Shape
- Rnd 1:
- Start with a magic circle (adjustable ring).
- Work 6sc into the loop. Pull the loop tight to close the circle. (6 sts) Alternative: If you prefer, ch 2, then work 6sc into the 2nd ch from the hook.
- Rnd 2: Work 2sc in each st around. This doubles the stitches in this round. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: Repeat the following sequence 6 times: sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st. Each repeat increases 1 stitch. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: Work sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st, then repeat [sc in the next 2 sts, 2sc in the next st] 5 times, ending with sc in the next st. This round adds more gradual increases to expand the shape. (24 sts)
Straight Rounds to Build Height
- Rnds 5–6: Sc in each st around for 2 rounds. No increases; this builds height while maintaining the circumference. (24 sts per round)
- Rnd 7: Repeat the following sequence 3 times: sc in the next 7 sts, 2sc in the next st. Increases are spaced further apart to shape the egg’s curve. (27 sts)
- Rnd 8: Work sc in the next 4 sts, 2sc in the next st, then repeat [sc in the next 8 sts, 2sc in the next st] 2 times, finishing with sc in the next 4 sts. (30 sts)
Rounding Out the Egg
Rnds 9–16: Sc in each st around for 8 rounds. This creates the egg’s body, maintaining the widest circumference. (30 sts per round)
Tapering and Shaping the Bottom
Firmly stuff the egg with Poly-fil, using a chopstick or dowel for even filling. Continue stuffing as you progress through the decreasing rounds.
- Rnd 17: Repeat the following sequence 6 times: sc in the next 3 sts, sc2tog. This begins to taper the shape by decreasing stitches. (24 sts)
- Rnd 18: Work sc in the next st, sc2tog, then repeat [sc in the next 2 sts, sc2tog] 5 times, finishing with sc in the next st. (18 sts)
- Rnd 19: Repeat the following sequence 6 times: sc in the next st, sc2tog. (12 sts)
- Rnd 20: Repeat the following sequence 4 times: sc in the next st, sc2tog. (8 sts)
Finishing the Egg
- Work a sl st into the next st, then fasten off, leaving a long tail.
- Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and weave it through the front loops of the remaining 8 stitches.
- Pull the tail tightly to close the opening at the bottom of the egg.
- Secure the yarn by weaving it into the egg several times and trimming the excess.
