Instructions for Stitching On-the-Go Water Bottle Carrier Pattern:
Start the Base
- Round 1: Begin with a Magic Circle (MC). Crochet 12 Double Crochets (Dc) into the MC, then join with a Slip Stitch (Slst) to the first Dc to close the circle. Ch 2 and turn.
- Round 2a: Increase (Inc) in each stitch around by crocheting 2 Dc in each stitch. This will expand the base of your water bottle carrier. Join with Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Note: If the base is too small for your water bottle after Round 2a, you can go to the “Adjustments” section for additional rounds:
- Round 2b: Dc, Inc around.
- Round 2c: 2 Dc, Inc around.
Form the Carrier Walls
- Rounds 3-6: Dc in each stitch around. Join with Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn at the end of each round.
- Round 7: Dc, Ch 1, Skst around, creating spaces between the stitches. Join with Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Round 8: Dc in each stitch around, Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Round 9: Dc, Ch 1, Skst around, repeating the pattern of Round 7 to create an open mesh. Join with Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Round 10: Dc in each stitch around, Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Round 11: Dc, Ch 1, Skst around, creating another round of mesh pattern. Join with Slst to the first Dc, Ch 2, and turn.
- Round 12: Dc in each stitch around, Slst to the first Dc. Do not fasten off if you are moving on to the strap.
- Note: You can continue adding rounds in this section if you want a taller water bottle carrier.
Create the Strap
- Round 13 (Strap Foundation): Ch 20 for the strap, then Single Crochet (Sc) in the second chain from the hook and each chain across. Slst to the next Dc from the carrier, then turn.
- Round 14: Sc in the next 16 Sc, Ch 1, Skst, then 2 Sc, Ch 1, and turn.
- Round 15: Sc in each Sc and Ch across. Slst to the next Dc on the carrier, FO (Fasten Off), and weave in ends.
Attach the Button
- Place the button on Row 12 of the carrier, approximately 4 or 5 stitches away from where the strap is attached.
This button allows you to secure the strap in place, making it easy to loop onto a bag or stroller.
Customization Strategy
- Larger Bottle Base: If your water bottle has a larger base, follow the adjustments in the pattern and add extra rounds as needed (Rounds 2b and 2c).
- Height Adjustments: To increase the height, add more rows between Rounds 3 and 12.
- Strap Length: To customize the strap length, simply adjust the number of chains in Round 13 to make it longer or shorter.
