Stitching Instructions for Making the Easy Blanket Sweater Crochet Pattern:
Foundation Chain:
- Ch 90 (or adjust based on desired width of your sweater). This will be the base for the front panel.
- Row 1: Turn your work, and in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc (double crochet).
- Dc in each ch across the entire row. You should have a total of 89 dc stitches at the end of this row.
- Row 2:
- Turn your work, ch 3 (counts as the first dc).
- Dc in each stitch across the entire row, including the turning ch 3 from the previous row. You’ll end up with 89 dc stitches at the end of this row.
- Repeat Row 2: Repeat Row 2 until the blanket sweater reaches the desired length (approximately 25-30 inches or until it wraps around comfortably). Each row should have 89 dc stitches.
Shaping Armholes:
Once your sweater reaches the desired length, it’s time to create the armholes:
- Ch 3 at the beginning of the next row to count as the first dc.
- Dc in the first 30 sts.
- Sk (skip) the next 29 sts. This will create an armhole space.
- Dc in each remaining stitch across the row.
Back Panel:
Now, work the back panel after leaving the armhole gap:
- Turn your work and ch 3 to begin the next row.
- Dc across the remaining 29 stitches from the previous row (skipped stitches will remain empty).
- Continue working dc across the remaining rows, each time leaving the armhole gap on the front panel untouched.
Joining the Front and Back Panels:
Once both the front and back panels are crocheted, you will join them:
- Fold the entire piece in half, with the right sides facing each other, aligning the front and back panels.
- Using a tapestry needle and the working yarn, sew the side seams together, leaving space for the armholes (around 10-12 inches depending on the armhole size).
Adding the Buttons:
To add the buttons:
- Ch 1, then work 3-5 more rows in the area where you would like to place the buttons. Make sure the buttonholes are large enough to fit the buttons comfortably.
- Sew the buttons to one side of the sweater using crochet thread or regular needle and thread.
- On the other side, create button loops by chaining 4-5 stitches (depending on button size) and then sl st (slip stitch) into the same spot where you started your button loop. Repeat for any additional loops needed.
Finishing:
- Weave in any remaining yarn ends with a tapestry needle.
- Block your sweater if necessary to straighten out the edges.
Final Result:
Now you have a cozy, stylish blanket sweater ready to wear!
