Instructions for Making the Quick No-Sew Flower Bookmark Pattern:

Step 1: Crocheting the Small Flower Petals

The initial stage involves creating the petals of the small flower, which are worked into a Magic Circle (MC). Five petals are made in total.

Start by establishing the Magic Circle (MC).

Instruction 01: Creating the Petals

Work the following stitch sequence into the Magic Circle (MC) five times (x5) to form the five distinct petals:

(Ch 2, 2 DC, 1 HDC, Slst) x5

This sequence completes the flower head.

Step 2: Creating the Stem and Leaf

Once the flower head is complete, the yarn color must be changed to green to begin forming the long flower stem.

Crucially, make sure that the new green yarn remains attached to the flower when starting the stem.

Instruction 02: Forming the Stem

The length of the stem is determined by chaining (Ch) until the chain reaches the length appropriate for your book.

  • Ch to the length of your book.
  • The stem required a chain of 58 Ch.

Instruction 03: Making the Little Green Leaf

After the stem is chained to the desired length, the small green leaf is made at the end, ensuring that the yarn remains attached to the stem. The leaf begins with a foundation chain of 8.

The full sequence for the leaf is as follows:

  • Ch 8.
  • Skip the 1st stitch.
  • Work 2 Slst.
  • Work SC.
  • Work HDC.
  • Work 2 DC.
  • Work HDC.
  • Work Slst.

To complete the leaf shape and work back along the other side of the initial 8 Ch:

  • Work Slst.
  • Work HDC.
  • Work 2 DC.
  • Work HDC.
  • Work SC.
  • Finish with 2 Slst.

Step 3: Fastening Off and Options

Once the leaf is complete, the project needs to be secured.

  • Fasten off the yarn.
  • Sew in ends.

Optional Decoration

For an added decorative element, you can choose to include little buttons. Adding these buttons to the center of the flower is an option that would look “really cute”. This completes the free flower bookmark, which makes a lovely gift for book lovers.
