Stitching Instructions for Making the Golf Club Covers Pattern:
Main Cover Body
- Base Row (Color A – Houston Cream):
- Ch 16.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook (skipping the first ch) and in each ch across. Turn. (15 sc) Tip: Keep your tension consistent to ensure an even width for the cover.
- Straight Rows:
- Rows 2-45: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st across. Turn. (15 sc per row) Note: If you want the cover to be longer or shorter, adjust the number of rows accordingly. Check measurements periodically to match the desired length.
- Joining the Edges to Form a Tube:
- After completing Row 45, fold the rectangle lengthwise with the right side facing out.
- Sl st through both layers along the long edge to join the tube. FO and weave in the end.
Top Ribbed Section (Color B – Washington Denim):
- Setup Round:
- Join Color B to one open end of the tube with a sl st.
- Ch 1, work sc evenly around the edge of the tube. Adjust stitch count to ensure the total number of sts is divisible by 3. (Typically, you’ll need 27 sts around.)
- Join with a sl st to the first sc.
- Ribbed Pattern:
- Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the next 2 sts, sl st in the next st; rep from around. Join with sl st to the first sc.
- Rounds 2–6: Repeat Round 1. FO after completing the final round. Tip: The ribbed pattern creates a snug fit to hold the cover securely on the club.
Optional Tapered Top (For a More Snug Fit)
- Decreasing Rounds (Color B):
- Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the next 3 sts, sc2tog (dec); rep from around. Join with sl st.
- Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the next 2 sts, sc2tog; rep from around. Join with sl st.
- Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the next st, sc2tog; rep from around. Join with sl st.
- FO, leaving a long tail. Use the tail to sew the remaining opening closed.
Pom-Pom Decoration (Optional)
- Create the Pom-Pom (Colors C and D – Cleveland Brown and Cincinnati Red):
- Wrap yarn around four fingers approximately 40-50 times.
- Carefully slide the bundle off your fingers and tie the center tightly with a piece of yarn.
- Cut the loops on both sides and trim the pom-pom to make it round and even.
- Attach the Pom-Pom:
- Using a sewing needle and thread, secure the pom-pom firmly to the center of the top ribbed section.
- Ensure the pom-pom is well attached to withstand handling.
Finishing Touches
- Weave in all remaining loose ends with the large-eye blunt needle.
- Lightly block the piece if necessary to shape it.
