Stitching Instructions for Making Heart Coaster Crochet Pattern:
Start with a Magic Ring
- Create a magic ring by wrapping the yarn around your fingers to form a loop.
- Insert the hook through the loop, yarn over (yo), and pull up a loop.
- Chain 1 (ch 1) to secure the loop, but do not tighten it yet; you’ll work into the ring.
- Round 1:
- Ch 3 (this counts as the first double crochet [dc]).
- Work 11 dc into the magic ring. Insert the hook into the ring, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, and complete the dc. Repeat this 11 times.
- Once you have 12 stitches (including the initial ch 3), gently pull the tail of the magic ring to close the center tightly.
- Join the round by making a sl st into the top of the ch 3. This creates a small circle as the base of the heart.
- Round 2:
- Ch 3 (counts as the first dc of this round).
- Work 1 dc into the same stitch (st) where you joined. This creates an increase.
- In each of the following sts, work 2 dc (one increase per st).
- Continue this pattern around the circle. You should have 24 stitches total at the end of the round.
- Join the round with a sl st into the top of the starting ch 3. The circle should now be larger and ready for shaping into a heart.
Shaping the Heart:
- Begin the heart shaping at the top of the circle.
- Ch 3, then work 2 dc into the first st. This forms the beginning of the first side of the heart.
- In the next st, work 3 dc to build the heart’s curve.
- In the next st, work 1 hdc (half double crochet) to transition into the flat edge.
- In the following 6 sts, work 1 sc (single crochet) in each st to form the flat edge at the bottom of the heart.
- In the next st, work 1 hdc to transition back into the curve.
- In the next st, work 3 dc.
- Ch 3, then make a sl st into the same st to form the first curve of the heart.
- Sl st into the next st to move over to the other side.
Second Curve:
- Ch 3, then work 3 dc in the next st to begin the second curve of the heart.
- In the next st, work 1 hdc to transition downwards.
- In the following 6 sts, work 1 sc in each to complete the flat edge.
- In the next st, work 1 hdc to transition upward.
- In the next st, work 3 dc.
- Ch 3, then make a sl st into the same st to finish the second curve.
- Sl st into the next st to complete the shaping.
Finish the Heart:
- Work sl sts evenly along the outer edge of the heart to smooth the curves and create a neat finish.
- When you reach the starting point, fasten off the yarn, leaving a tail for weaving in.
Finishing:
- Use a yarn needle to weave in the ends on the back of the heart.
- Trim any excess yarn for a polished look.
Your heart coaster is now complete! You can make more coasters in different colors for a set or use them as decorations. Experiment with yarn weights and hook sizes for larger or smaller hearts.
