Instructions for Lily Sugar’n Cream Mosaic Stitch Crochet Dishcloth Pattern:

Row 1:

Row 1
  • Ch 38 (or any number that matches the desired width of your dishcloth). The number of chains determines the width, so feel free to adjust it based on your preference.
  • In the 2nd ch from the hook, dc in each of the next 36 chains. To do a double crochet, yarn over, insert the hook into the chain, yarn over again, pull through, yarn over again, and pull through the first two loops, then yarn over and pull through the last two loops. This completes 1 dc.
  • You should have 37 dc sts in total after completing this row.
  • Turn your work. (When you turn, you’ll begin crocheting into the stitches of the previous row).

Row 2:

Row 2
  • Change to your second color (Color B). To do this, simply pull through your new color on the last step of the dc in Row 1.
  • Ch 1 (this is the turning chain for Row 2).
  • Sk 1 (skip 1 stitch), then dc in the next st. This means you’re leaving the first dc from Row 1 unworked and working into the next dc.
  • Continue the pattern across the row: ch 1, sk 1, dc in the next st. Repeat this sequence until you reach the end of the row.

At the end of the row, you will be working the last dc into the top of the first dc from Row 1.

  • Turn your work.

Row 3:

Row 3
  • Change back to your first color (Color A). Again, to change colors, finish the dc with Color B and pull through the new Color A yarn.
  • Ch 2 (this will count as your first dc in this row).
  • Dc in each dc across the row. Insert your hook into the top of the dc from Row 2, yarn over, and work a dc as usual. Continue this across the row until you reach the last stitch.
  • Turn your work.

Row 4:

Row 4
  • Change to your second color (Color B) again.
  • Ch 1 (this will be your turning chain for Row 4).
  • Sk 1, then dc in the next st. This means you’ll skip the first dc from Row 3 and work your dc into the second dc stitch.
  • Repeat the pattern across the row: ch 1, sk 1, dc in the next st. Continue this alternating skip and dc pattern until you reach the end of the row.
  • The last dc will go into the top of the first dc from Row 3.
  • Turn your work.

Rows 5-12 (or desired length):

Rows 5-12
  • Repeat Rows 3 and 4 for the next rows, alternating between Color A and Color B. Every odd-numbered row will be worked in dc across, while every even-numbered row will have the alternating ch 1, sk 1, dc pattern.
  • Continue until your dishcloth reaches the desired size, typically around 9″ x 9″ (23 cm x 23 cm), or any custom size you prefer.

Final Row:

  • On your last row (whether it’s Row 12 or your final row of choice), finish with a row of all dc stitches in your final color (Color A or B). This ensures that the edge is neat and clean.
  • Fasten off your yarn by cutting the yarn and pulling it through the last loop, securing it tightly.

Finishing:

  • Use a tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends of the yarn where you changed colors or when you finished the dishcloth. This helps secure all the yarn tails and keeps the dishcloth neat.
  • Be sure to weave in the ends through several stitches to prevent them from unraveling over time.
