Finishing Details
Fringe
- Use the Pale Rose color and cut pieces of yarn that are 12 inches long. You will need three strands of yarn to complete one fringe. Place them evenly across the foundation chain row.
- Starting on the far left of the foundation chain, insert your hook from the back of the piece to the front.
- Fold the three yarn strands in half to create a loop, and pull this loop through the stitch.
- Pull all the ends of the yarn through the loop and pull tightly to secure the fringe.
Blocking
Tapestry crochet pieces often appear uneven or may not lay flat, which is normal. Blocking helps reshape the work.
- Steam Method: Pin the tapestry onto blocking mats and use a hand steamer or the steam function on an iron to reshape it.
- Water Method: Submerge the piece in cool water for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Lay it flat, reshape it while wet, pin it to blocking mats, and allow it to dry completely.
- Spray Method: Spray both sides of the tapestry with water until it is damp. Reshape while damp, pin to a blocking board, and let it dry completely.
Dowel Rod Attachment
- Once the tapestry is completely dry and blocked, use the long tail left earlier and a darning needle.
- Wrap the tail around the wooden dowel, then go back through the next stitch. Repeat this motion all the way across until the dowel is fully secured to the tapestry.
- Cut a separate long piece of yarn to create the hanger. This piece can be whatever size you prefer.
- Wrap one end of this hanging yarn over twice on one side of the dowel where the wall hanging begins, and tie a knot.
- Repeat this wrapping process twice on the other side of the dowel where the wall hanging ends, and tie a knot, ensuring there is slack left in the middle for hanging.
- Trim any loose ends.
