Stitching Rounds of Adorable Amigurumi Rag Doll Pattern:
Head:
- Round 1:
- Begin with a magic ring (also known as an adjustable ring), which will create a tight, seamless start for the head.
- ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Make 6 sc (single crochet) into the ring, and then pull the tail of the ring tight to close the center.
- You should have 6 stitches in total.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 1: 6
- Round 2:
- 2 sc in each stitch around. This means you will crochet two single crochets into each stitch from Round 1, doubling your stitch count.
- This increases the size of the circle.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 2: 12
- Round 3:
- Sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around the round.
- You will crochet one single crochet in the first stitch, and in the next stitch, make two single crochets (increase).
- Repeat this pattern until you complete the round.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 3: 18
- Round 4:
- Sc in the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat this around.
- This continues to expand the head by increasing the stitch count at regular intervals.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 4: 24
- Round 5:
- Sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat this around.
- Keep increasing the head by adding an extra single crochet before every increase (2 sc).
- Total stitches at the end of Round 5: 30
- Continue increasing:
- Continue increasing as per the pattern’s instruction, usually increasing in this pattern until you reach the desired head circumference.
For larger heads, you may continue increasing by following the same pattern: sc in the next N stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch, repeating this until you reach the desired size.
- Note: Be sure to check the pattern for the exact number of rounds needed.
Body:
- Round 1:
- Start the body with a magic ring, and ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Make 6 sc into the ring, and tighten it up.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 1: 6
- Round 2:
- 2 sc in each stitch around. This increases your stitch count by 6, giving you a total of 12 stitches.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 2: 12
- Round 3:
- Sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch (repeat around).
- This will continue expanding the body in the same way you expanded the head.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 3: 18
- Continue crocheting:
- Keep increasing and then maintaining your stitch count to shape the torso.
- You may want to follow the pattern for the exact stitch increases and the rounds required to reach the torso’s desired size.
- Once you reach the desired circumference for the body, stop increasing and simply continue working in sc around to form the straight body shape.
- Note: The body will typically stay at a constant stitch count once the desired width is achieved.
Arms and Legs:
- Arms:
- Round 1:
- Begin with a magic ring, and ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Crochet 6 sc into the magic ring.
- Tighten the ring to close the circle.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 1: 6
- Continue working in rounds without increasing for the desired length of the arm. You will work in a spiral until the arm reaches the desired size (usually around 10-12 rounds depending on the pattern).
- Round 1:
- Legs:
- Round 1:
- Start with a magic ring, and ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Make 6 sc into the ring and pull the ring tight.
- Total stitches at the end of Round 1: 6
- Continue working in rounds, similar to the arms, until the legs reach the desired length (often a few more rounds than the arms).
- Round 1:
Attaching Parts:
- Arms and Legs:
- Using a tapestry needle, position the arms and legs where you want them on the body.
Generally, arms are placed on the sides of the body, and legs are placed at the bottom.
- Carefully stitch through both the body and the limbs, securing them in place by going through the edge of the body and back into the limb.
- Be sure to stitch tightly to ensure the limbs don’t wiggle or come off. You can use the yarn ends to help secure the limbs, but don’t cut them until they are firmly in place.
Finishing:
- Stuffing:
- As you complete the parts (head, body, arms, legs), stuff them with fiberfill (or your preferred stuffing material).
- Don’t overstuff, but make sure each part is firm enough to hold its shape without being too packed.
- Stuff the head and body more firmly than the arms and legs for a nice proportion.
- Weaving in Ends:
- After attaching the limbs, use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends from the yarn.
- Hide the yarn tails inside the doll’s body or limbs to give the finished product a neat and clean look.
- Final Touches:
- Add any final details like embroidery for the face, clothing, or accessories.
- Make sure all the parts are securely stitched, and your rag doll is now complete!
