- Finishing: Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use a tapestry needle to weave in the ends and close the top of the hat.
Finishing the Hat
- Weave in Ends: Using a tapestry needle, carefully weave in all the loose ends from the yarn changes.
Make sure to weave them into the stitches of the corresponding color to keep the inside of the hat neat and secure.
- Top of the Hat: After you have fastened off and left a long tail, use the tapestry needle to gather the stitches at the top of the hat.
Pull the tail tight to close the hole, then weave the tail back and forth through the stitches to secure it. Once you’re happy with the closure, trim the excess yarn.
- Optional Pom-Pom: If you want to add a pom-pom for extra flair, use a pom-pom maker or wrap yarn around your fingers about 50 times.
Tie the center tightly with a piece of yarn, cut the loops, and trim to shape. Attach the pom-pom to the top of the hat by threading a piece of yarn through the center and tying it securely.
- Final Check for Fit: Try the hat on to ensure it fits comfortably. If needed, you can adjust the size by adding or removing rounds in the band or crown.
If it’s too loose, a quick stitch with a smaller hook around the band will help tighten it up. If it’s too tight, gently stretch it or undo a few rounds and rework them for a looser fit.
- Blocking (Optional): To enhance the hat’s shape, you may block it. Wet the hat slightly, gently stretch it into shape, and let it dry flat. This can help even out the stitches and improve the overall look.
