Stitching Instructions for Making the Shamrock Crochet Coaster Pattern:
Starting the Base:
- Make a Foundation Ring:
- Begin with a slip knot on your hook.
- Ch 4 (this will form your starting chain).
- Join the last chain to the first with a sl st to form a ring.
- Round 1 (Starting the Shamrock Leaves):
- Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Work 6 sc into the center of the ring.
- Sl st into the first sc to join the round. You should now have 6 sc stitches in the round.
Forming the Shamrock Leaves:
- Round 2 (First Shamrock Leaf):
- Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Sc in the same st where the ch 1 was made (this will start your first leaf).
- Ch 4 to form the chain loop of the leaf.
- Work 3 sc into the ch 4 loop. This creates the first leaf’s loop and body.
- Ch 4 again to make the second loop of the leaf.
- Sc in the same st to form the second part of the leaf, completing it.
- Repeat this process for the second and third leaves, working in the remaining 5 sc stitches. You will end up with three separate loops of 3 sc worked into each ch 4 loop.
- Round 3 (Connecting the Leaves and Completing the Shamrock Shape):
- Now work around the base of each leaf to form the center of the shamrock.
- Sc in each sc from the previous round.
- For each leaf’s chain loop, work 1 sc into the top of the chain loop, joining the leaves together at the top and giving shape to the shamrock.
- Round 4 (Finalizing the Shamrock Shape):
- Continue working 1 sc in each sc around the entire round.
- Where the chain loops are, work 2 sc in each space between the leaves to give the leaves some curvature.
- Sl st into the first sc at the end of the round to close it.
Final Touches:
- Optional: Adding a Border:
- If desired, work a simple border around the coaster.
- Ch 1 and sc in each stitch around the coaster’s edges.
- You can work 2 sc in the corners to form a smoother, rounded edge.
- Optional: Adding Fringe:
- To add fringe, cut 3-4″ lengths of green yarn (about 12-15 pieces).
- Attach each piece of fringe at the corners by folding it in half and using a slip knot to secure it to the coaster’s corner stitches.
Finishing Off:
- Cut the Yarn:
- When you’ve completed the border or fringe, cut the yarn, leaving a small tail.
- Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends securely on the wrong side of the coaster.
You should now have a finished Shamrock Crochet Coaster with a 4″x4″ size (without the fringe and border).
The pattern is ideal for using as a decorative item for St. Patrick’s Day or just for a little extra luck in your home!
