Stitching Instructions for Making the Simply Daisy Bookmark Pattern:
Daisy Flower (Make 2):
- Magic Ring (MR):
- Start by creating an MR (magic ring). Alternatively, you can ch 4, and then sl st into the first chain to form a ring. This ring will serve as the foundation for your flower.
- Round 1 (Center of the Flower):
- Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch, it is only for turning).
- Work 8 sc into the ring.
- Pull the MR tight to close the center of the ring.
- Sl st into the first sc to close the round.
- You should have 8 sc in this round.
- Round 2 (Petals):
- Ch 3 (counts as the first dc in the petal).
- 2 dc into the next stitch.
- Ch 3 (this forms the top of the petal).
- Sl st into the same stitch you just worked the 2 dc into to form the petal.
- Repeat this process 8 times in total, once in each of the 8 sc from Round 1. You should have a total of 8 petals around the center.
- Finishing Round 2:
- After completing the last petal, sl st into the base of the first petal to join.
- Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
- Note: Be sure to work the petals evenly around the center to keep the flower symmetrical.
Stem:
- Attach Yarn to the Back of the Flower: Choose a sc stitch on the back of one of the daisy flowers and sl st to attach the yarn.
- Ch 35 (or Adjust for Desired Length): Begin by ch 35 (you can adjust this number to your desired length for the bookmark stem).
- Work Along the Stem:
- Starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 sc into each chain across the row.
- You should end with 34 sc in this row. This forms the length of your bookmark.
- Finishing the Stem: Once you’ve reached the end of the stem, fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
Leaf (Optional):
- Attach Yarn to the Stem: Decide where you’d like the leaf to be and sl st the yarn onto the stem at that point.
- Work the Leaf Shape:
- Ch 6 to begin the leaf.
- Starting from the second ch from the hook:
- 1 sc in the first ch.
- 1 hdc (half double crochet) in the next ch.
- 1 dc (double crochet) in the next ch.
- 1 hdc in the next ch.
- 1 sc in the last ch.
- This creates the leaf shape with a nice curve.
- Attach the Leaf to the Stem:
- Once you’ve finished the leaf, sl st back into the stem where the leaf started.
- Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
Joining the Flowers:
- Align the Two Flowers: Place the two flower pieces together, ensuring their centers align perfectly.
- Sew the Flowers Together:
- Using a yarn needle and a piece of yarn (matching the flower color), sew through the back loops of the 8 sc in the center of each flower.
- Sew through the back loops of the same sc stitches of both flowers to join them. This creates a double-sided daisy.
Finishing:
- Blocking the Bookmark:
- Lightly steam the bookmark or spray it with water using a spray bottle to block it.
- Shape the flowers, stem, and leaf gently with your fingers to get a nice, even look.
- Pin the bookmark flat to a surface (such as a blocking mat, cardboard, or a book) to help it hold its shape as it dries.
- Allow to Dry: Let the bookmark dry completely before using it, as this will help set the shape and prevent any curling.
