Step by Step Guide for Tunisian Farmhouse Crochet Pillow Pattern:

Create the Front Panel (Tunisian Knit Stitch Side)

Create the Front Panel
  • Start with a foundation chain:
    • Chain 32 stitches using your Tunisian crochet hook.
    • This chain will form the width of your pillow panel.
  • Row 1:
    • Work the first row by inserting the hook from front to back between the front and back vertical bars, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Repeat this across the foundation chain.
    • Complete the return pass by drawing through 1 loop, then continue drawing through 2 loops at a time until only one loop remains on the hook.
  • Rows 2–35:
    • Work the Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS) in each stitch across. Complete the return pass after each row.
  • Final Row:
    • On Row 36, finish with a slip stitch bind-off: Start in the second vertical bar, insert hook TKSwise, yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook. Repeat across the row.
  • Fasten Off:
  • Cut your yarn, fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Create the Back Panel (Tunisian Simple Stitch Side)

Create the Back Panel
  • Foundation Chain:
    • Just like the front panel, chain 32 stitches.
  • Rows 1–29:
    • For this side, alternate between Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) and TSS Back Loop Only (TSSBLO). Work TSS, TSSBLO across the row for a textured stitch pattern.
    • Complete the return pass after each row.
  • Final Row:
    • On Row 30, work a combined slip stitch bind-off. Insert hook TKSwise, yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook, then insert hook TSSBLOwise and pull through both loops. Continue this pattern across the row, and finish by chaining 1.
  • Do Not Cut Yarn:
  • Leave the yarn attached and proceed to the finishing steps.

Assemble the Pillow Cover

Assemble the Pillow Cover
  • Position the Panels:
    • Place the two panels wrong side to wrong side, ensuring the textured side of the panels is on the outside. This will ensure the front is the TKS side, and the back is the TSSBLO side.
  • Sew the Panels Together:
    • Using a 12mm traditional crochet hook, single crochet around three sides of the pillow panels. Pin the pieces together with stitch markers to keep them aligned while working.
    • Insert your pillow form before you complete the final edge.
  • Finish the Edge:
    • Continue crocheting around the remaining edge to close up the pillow, then slip stitch to the first single crochet.
  • Crochet the Crab Stitch (Reverse Single Crochet):
    • Chain 1 and begin working reverse single crochet (crab stitch) around the pillow’s edges, working into each single crochet made during the seaming process.
    • This will add a lovely textured border.
  • Cut Yarn and Fasten Off:
    • Once you’ve completed the crab stitch border, cut the yarn, fasten off, and weave in any loose ends.

Finishing Touches:

Finishing Touches
  • Fluff the Pillow: After you’ve closed the final seam, fluff up your pillow and adjust the stuffing to make sure it’s evenly distributed.
  • Optional: Add any farmhouse-style embellishments, such as small fabric flowers or buttons, to the center of the pillow for an extra touch of charm.
