Verano Longline Cardigan Pattern

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn: Lion Brand Yarn Truboo in Mushroom (or chosen color)
  • Yarn Measurements: 400 g (XS) to 855 g (XXL)
  • Gauge: 13 sts & 6 rows in 4” x 4” of dc
  • Hooks: US K (6.5 mm) for main, US H (5.0 mm) for collar
  • Finished Size: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL (Bust: 30” to 50”, Length: 35” to 45”)
  • Other Tools:
    • Measuring tape
    • Tapestry needle
    • Scissors

Abbreviations Used:

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • sk st: skip stitch
  • dc2tog: double crochet 2 together (decrease)
  • sc: single crochet
  • BPsc: back post single crochet
  • FPsc: front post single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • hdc flo: half double crochet through the front loop only
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sp: space (usually refers to the space between stitches)
  • sts: stitches

Stitching Instructions for Making the Verano Longline Cardigan Pattern:

Back Panel Pattern:

  • Row 1: Ch 50 (56, 62, 68, 74, 82) (or appropriate starting chain for your size), dc in 4th ch from hook and in each st across. (48, 54, 60, 66, 72, 80 sts)
  • Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in each st across.
  • Rows 3-5: Repeat Row 2.

Lace Section:

  • Row 6: Ch 4 (counts as tr), turn, tr in next st, sk st, tr in next st, tr in skipped st (twist stitch made). Repeat from across to last two sts, tr in each of last two sts.
  • Row 7: Repeat Row 2 (dc in each st across).
  • Row 8: Repeat Row 6 (lace pattern).

Double Crochet Section:

  • Rows 9-14: Repeat Row 2 (dc in each st across) until piece measures approximately 35” (37”, 39”, 41”, 43”, 45”).

Front Panel Pattern (Make 2):

  • Row 1: Ch 22 (26, 28, 32, 34, 38) (starting chain depending on size), dc in 4th ch from hook and in each st across. (20, 24, 26, 30, 32, 36 sts)
  • Rows 2-5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in each st across.
  • Row 6: Ch 4 (counts as tr), turn, tr in next st, sk st, tr in next st, tr in skipped st. Repeat from across.
  • Row 7: Repeat Row 2 (dc in each st across).
  • Row 8: Repeat Row 6 (lace pattern).
  • Rows 9-12: Repeat Rows 2 (dc) and 6 (lace) alternately as directed.
  • Rows 13-28: Repeat Row 2 (dc) across until piece measures approximately the same length as the back panel.

V-Stitch Upper Section:

  • Row 29: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in next st, sk st, 2 dc in next st (v-stitch made). Repeat from across.
  • Row 30: Ch 3, turn, dc in sp of each v-stitch from previous row, 2 dc in sp between last 2 dc sts.
  • Row 31: Ch 3, turn, dc in sp of each v-stitch from previous row, 2 dc in sp between last 2 dc sts.
  • Continue repeating Row 31 until piece is the same length as the back panel.

Seaming & Assembly:

  • Shoulders: Use preferred seaming method (whip stitch or slip stitch) to sew the front panels to the back panel at the shoulder seams.
  • Sides & Arm Openings: Use preferred seaming method to sew the sides, leaving arm openings of approximately 6 ¼” (6 ¾”, 7 ¼”, 7 ¾”, 8 ¼”, 8 ¾”) depending on size.

Sleeves (worked in turned rounds):

  • Rd 1: Attach yarn to arm opening, ch 3, dc evenly around arm opening, sl st to join in top of ch 3.
  • Rd 2: Ch 3, turn, dc2tog (decrease), dc in each st around, sl st to join in top of ch 3.
  • Rd 3-4: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st around.
  • Repeat rounds 2-4 in that order until sleeve measures approximately 14” to 15” depending on size.
  • Lace Stitching for Sleeve: Ch 4 (counts as tr), turn, tr in next st, *sk st, tr in next st, tr in skipped st (twist stitch made). Repeat around. Finish with a round of dc.

Cuff Detail:

  • Rd 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around.
  • Rd 2: Ch 1, BPsc (back post single crochet) in first st, *FPsc (front post single crochet) in next st, BPsc in next st; repeat around to last st, FPsc in last st.

Collar:

  • Row 1: Attach yarn to inner corner of front panel, ch 2, work hdc (half double crochet) evenly across the neckline, working approximately 2 hdc per dc and 3 hdc per tr from previous rows.
  • Rows 2-6: Ch 2, turn, hdc flo (half double crochet through the front loop) in each st across.
  • Repeat Row 2 as needed for desired collar width.
