Pattern Description:

This easy-level bookmark features the classic Granny Square design. It is constructed by crocheting together four simple granny squares

Step 1: Crochet the Granny Squares

Begin with Color C. Make a Magic Ring or ch 3 and join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 3 dc in ring, ch 2. 4 dc in ring, ch 2; rpt from to twice more. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Change to Color B. Turn. (16 dc)

Rnd 2: With Color B, ch 3, 3 dc in first ch-2 sp, ch 2, 4 dc in same sp, sk next 4 dc. [4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc] in next ch-2 sp; rpt from to around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Change to Color A. Do not turn. (32 dc)

Rnd 3: With Color A, ch 1, sc in same st and each st around, working 3 sc in each ch-2 sp. Join with sl st to first sc. (44 sc)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat Rnds 1–3 three more times for a total of four squares.

Step 2: Joining the Squares

Hold two squares together, right sides facing. Working through back loops only of both squares, join Color A with a sl st. Work 1 sc in each st across edge. Fasten off.

Repeat to join remaining squares in a vertical strip of four.

Step 3: Edging

Join Color A with a sl st in top left corner of the strip.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in each corner st. Join with a sl st to first sc.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Step 4: Optional Tassel

Make a tassel using any of the yarn colors and attach it to the center bottom of the bookmark.
