Stitching Instructions for Making the Bernat Herringbone Crochet Blanket Pattern:
Step 1: Foundation Chain
- Ch 110 (The foundation chain should be a multiple of 6 + 8 additional stitches).
- This will form the base of the blanket and determine the width.
Step 2: 1st Row (RS – Right Side)
- Ch 1 (This does not count as a stitch).
- 1 sc (Single Crochet) in the 2nd chain from the hook.
- Now, Ch 1, skip the next chain, and then make 1 sc in the next chain.
- Repeat from * to the end of the chain. You will have 109 stitches in total (55 sc stitches and 54 ch-1 spaces).
- Turn your work to begin the next row.
Step 3: 2nd Row (WS – Wrong Side)
- Ch 1, and 1 sc in the first sc (of the previous row).
- Now, Ch 1, skip the next ch-1 space, and then make 1 sc in the next sc.
- Repeat from * to the end of the row. This establishes the pattern’s base.
- Turn your work to start the next row.
Step 4: 3rd Row (RS – Right Side)
- Ch 1, and 1 sc in the first sc.
- Now, Ch 3, skip the next (Ch-1 space and 1 sc), and make a sl st (slip stitch) in the next ch-1 space that is 2 rows below from the 1st row.
- Ch 3 again, skip the next (1 sc and Ch-1 space), and make 1 sc in the next sc.
- Repeat from * to the end of the row.
- Turn your work.
Step 5: 4th Row (WS – Wrong Side)
- Ch 1, and 1 sc in the first sc.
- Now, working into 2 rows below (from the 2nd row), make the following sequence: [(Ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, 1 dc (double crochet) in the next sc) twice, Ch 1, skip the next ch-1 space].
- Now, working into the last row (3rd row), make 1 sc in the next sc.
- Repeat from * to the end of the row.
- Turn your work.
Step 6: 5th Row (RS – Right Side)
- Ch 1, and 1 sc in the first sc.
- Now, Ch 3, skip (Ch-1 space and 1 dc), and sl st (slip stitch) in the next ch-1 space that is 3 rows below (from the 2nd row).
- Ch 3 again, skip (1 dc and Ch-1 space), and make 1 sc in the next sc.
- Repeat from * to the end of the row.
- Turn your work.
Step 7: 6th Row (WS – Wrong Side)
- Ch 1, and 1 sc in the first sc.
- Now, working into 2 rows below (from the 4th row), make the following sequence: [(Ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, 1 dc in the next dc) twice, Ch 1, skip the next ch-1 space].
- Now, working into the last row (5th row), make 1 sc in the next sc.
- Repeat from * to the end of the row.
- Turn your work.
Step 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6 for the Herringbone Pattern
- Repeat rows 5 and 6 for the Herringbone Pattern until the blanket measures 52″ [132 cm], ending on a WS row (Wrong Side).
- Fasten off the yarn.
