Round-by-Round Directions for Making the Bumble Bee Pattern:

Body of the Bumble Bee

Start with Yellow Yarn:

  • Round 1:
    • Make a magic ring (MR), then crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring.
    • (6) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Round 2:
    • Work 1 inc in each stitch around (an increase means crocheting 2 sc in the same stitch).
    • (12) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Round 3:
    • Work 1 sc, 1 inc in each stitch around. For this, you’ll crochet 1 sc in the first stitch and 1 inc (2 sc in the same stitch) in the next stitch, and repeat this around.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Round 4:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Simply crochet 1 sc into each stitch.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.

Change to Black Yarn:

  • Round 5:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Keep crocheting 1 sc in each stitch.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Round 6:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Continue crocheting 1 sc in each stitch.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.

Change to Yellow Yarn:

  • Round 7:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Crochet 1 sc in every stitch.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.

Change to Black Yarn:

  • Round 8:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Continue with 1 sc in each stitch around.
    • (18) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Round 9:
    • Work 1 sc, 1 dec around. For this, crochet 1 single crochet (sc), then 1 decrease (dec) – crochet 1 stitch over the next 2 stitches. Repeat this pattern around.
    • (12) stitches at the end of this round.

Change to Black Yarn:

  1. Round 10:
    • Work 1 dec in each stitch around. Crochet 1 decrease (dec) in every stitch.
    • (6) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Stuffing: Before finishing, add a small amount of toy stuffing inside the bee’s body to give it some shape.
  • Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the remaining stitches and close the hole tightly. Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends and secure the bottom.

Wings (Make 2)

Using White Yarn:

  • Round 1:
    • Make a magic ring (MR), then crochet 6 single crochets (sc) inside the ring.
    • (6) stitches at the end of this round.
  • Finish:
    • Slip stitch (sl st) in the first sc to close the magic ring.
    • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing the wings onto the bee’s body.

Assembly:

  • Attach the Wings:
    • Take the two completed wings and sew them onto the body of the bee, positioning them in the center of Round 6. You can use the long tails left from the wings to securely stitch them in place.
  • Add the Cheeks (Optional):
    • For a cute touch, use pink yarn to stitch small circles or “blush marks” on the bee’s face, right between the eyes. You can use a simple running stitch or small French knots to create the cheeks.
  • Safety Eyes:
    • Place the safety eyes between Round 2 and Round 3 of the bee’s body, spaced about 3 stitches apart. Secure them tightly.

And You’re Done!

Now you have a charming, hand-crocheted Bumble Bee ready to brighten up your day! Enjoy your little creation!
