Chillin’ with the Peeps

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn:
    • Caron One Pound (Pale Green, Lilac, Soft Pink)
    • Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (Pink)
    • Bernat Baby Blanket (Baby Blue, 1 skein = 100g/3.5oz makes 1 bunny)
  • Yarn Measurements:
    • Worsted Weight Yarn: For 3.1” x 6.4” bunny.
    • Blanket Yarn: For 4.6” x 11.5” bunny.
  • Hook Size:
    • G/4.00 mm for worsted weight yarn
    • J/6.00 mm for blanket yarn
  • Pattern Measurements:
    • Worsted Weight Yarn Bunny: 3.1” wide x 6.4” height
    • Blanket Yarn Bunny: 4.6” wide x 11.5” height
  • Needle: Yarn Needle (Clover Chibi Bent Tip Needle Set recommended)

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sc2tog = single crochet decrease / single crochet two together
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)

Special Stitches:

  • sc2tog: Single crochet two together, used for decreasing.

Stitching Instructions for Making the Chillin’ with the Peeps Pattern:

Body & Head (Make 2)

Step 1: Foundation Chain

  • With your chosen yarn, ch 9 to create the foundation chain.

Row 1:

  • Start from the second ch from the hook and sc in the next 7 stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 8 stitches on this row).

Row 2:

  • 2 sc in the first stitch (increase), then sc in the next 6 stitches.
  • 2 sc in the last stitch (increase).
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 10 stitches).

Row 3:

  • 2 sc in the first stitch (increase), sc in the next 8 stitches.
  • 2 sc in the last stitch (increase).
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 12 stitches).

Rows 4-6:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 after each row. (12 stitches each row).

Row 7:

  • sc2tog (decrease) in the first two stitches, sc in the next 8 stitches.
  • sc2tog in the last two stitches (decrease).
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 10 stitches).

Row 8:

  • sc2tog in the first two stitches, sc in the next 6 stitches.
  • sc2tog in the last two stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 8 stitches).

Row 9:

  • sc2tog in the first two stitches, sc in the next 4 stitches.
  • sc2tog in the last two stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 6 stitches).

Row 10:

  • Work 2 sc in the next stitch, then sc in the next stitch.
  • Repeat the pattern: 2 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 9 stitches).

Row 11:

  • 2 sc in the first stitch (increase), sc in the next 7 stitches.
  • 2 sc in the last stitch (increase).
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 11 stitches).

Rows 12-13:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 after each row. (11 stitches each row).

Row 14:

  • sc2tog in the first two stitches, sc in the next 7 stitches.
  • sc2tog in the last two stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 9 stitches).

Row 15:

  • sc2tog in the first two stitches, sc in the next 5 stitches.
  • sc2tog in the last two stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 7 stitches).

Row 16:

  • sc in the first stitch, sc in the second stitch, sc2tog in the next two stitches, then sc in the last 3 stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (You now have 6 stitches).

Right Ear

Row 17:

  • sc in the next 3 stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 18:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 19:

  • 2 sc in the first stitch, sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the last stitch.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (5 stitches).

Rows 20-22:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 after each row. (5 stitches each row).

Row 23:

  • sc in the first 3 stitches, then sc2tog (decrease).
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (4 stitches).

Row 24:

  • sc2tog, sc in the next 2 stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 25:

  • sc in the first stitch, then sc2tog.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (2 stitches).

Row 26:

  • sc2tog.
  • Fasten off and weave in the end.

Left Ear

  • With the right ear positioned on the right side of the bunny, insert your hook into the stitch just to the left of the right ear (the 4th stitch of Row 16).

Row 1:

  • Join yarn with a slip stitch, then sc in the same stitch and in the next two stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 2:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 3:

  • 2 sc in the first stitch, sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the last stitch.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (5 stitches).

Rows 4-6:

  • sc in each stitch across.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 after each row. (5 stitches each row).

Row 7:

  • sc2tog, sc in the next 3 stitches.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (4 stitches).

Row 8:

  • sc in the next 2 stitches, then sc2tog.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (3 stitches).

Row 9:

  • sc2tog, sc in the last stitch.
  • Turn your work with ch 1 (2 stitches).

Row 10:

  • sc2tog.
  • Fasten off and weave in the end.

Finishing the Bunny:

  • Joining the Body Pieces:
    • Place the two bunny body pieces together, ensuring that the wrong sides are facing each other.
    • Using the yarn and crochet hook, work a sc around the perimeter of the bunny, leaving a small opening for stuffing.
  • Stuffing:
    • When you’re about 1/3 of the way around, start adding fiberfill stuffing.
    • Insert the safety eyes (6mm) about 1/3 of the way down and position the 6mm safety nose.
    • Continue stuffing as you work the sc around the body.
  • Finishing the Seam:
    • Once you’ve completely sc around, sl st into the first sc to join the round.
    • Fasten off and weave in the ends securely.
  • Optional Tail: You can create a small pompom for the bunny’s tail for an extra touch.
