Stitching Instructions for Making the Fireside Basket Pattern:

Base (Worked in a Spiral)

Using Color A (Desert) and a 9mm hook, hold two strands together. Work in a continuous spiral, moving the stitch marker up after the last stitch of each round.

  • Round 1: (Ch 1, 6 sc) in a magic ring (MR), close MR tightly. (6 sc)
  • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
  • Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st) around. (18 sc)
  • Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st) around. (24 sc)
  • Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st) around. (30 sc)
  • Round 6: (Sc in next 4 sts, inc in next st) around. (36 sc)
  • Round 7: (Sc in next 5 sts, inc in next st) around. (42 sc)
  • Round 8: (Sc in next 6 sts, inc in next st) around. (48 sc)
  • Round 9: (Sc in next 7 sts, inc in next st) around. (54 sc)
  • Round 10: (Sc in next 8 sts, inc in next st) around. (60 sc)
  • Round 11: (Sc in next 9 sts, inc in next st) around. (66 sc)
  • Round 12: (Sc in next 10 sts, inc in next st) around. (72 sc)
  • Round 13: (Sc in next 11 sts, inc in next st) around. (78 sc)
  • Round 14: (Sc in next 12 sts, inc in next st) around. (84 sc)

Sides (Worked in a Spiral)

Continue working with Color A while holding two strands together.

  • Round 1: Sc in each stitch around, working into the back loop only (BLO) to create a crisp edge at the base. (84 sc)
  • Rounds 2-28: Sc in each stitch around, maintaining an even tension. (84 sc per round)
  • Round 29: Switch to Color B (Agave) at the last yarn-over of the last stitch. Continue holding two strands together.
  • Rounds 30-40: Sc in each stitch around with Color B. Work until both skeins are finished, adjusting length if needed.
  • Final Round: Sl st into the next st to secure the last round. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ribbon (Worked Separately)

Using one strand of Color A and a 6.5mm hook:

  • Row 1: Fsc 127 (or a multiple of 6 + 1 to fit around the basket). Turn.
  • Row 2: Ch 1, sc across the row, turn.
  • Row 3: Ch 1, sc across the row, turn.
  • Row 4 (BO Edge): Ch 1, sc in the first st, BO (back loop only) across the row for a decorative finish. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly & Finishing

  • Fold the Color B section outward to create a contrast band at the top.
  • Pin the ribbon to the top of the basket with T-pins to ensure an even fit.
  • Sew the ribbon to the basket using a tapestry needle and a long strand of Color A, securing it with a running stitch.
  • Steam block (optional) using a garment steamer to relax fibers and shape the basket.
  • Weave in all remaining ends and trim excess yarn.
