Instructions for Making the Granny Square Heart Pattern:
Rnd 1:

Start with a magic ring or ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc into the ring, ch 2, 3 dc into the ring – rep from to two more times.
You should now have 4 groups of 3 dc separated by ch-2 spaces. Ch 2 and sl st to the 3rd ch of beginning ch-3 to close. (4 corners formed)
Rnd 2:

Sl st in the next dc and into the ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same ch-2 sp, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp (first corner made).
In the next ch-2 corner sp: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc – repeat around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (You now have 4 corners and 4 sides.)
Rnd 3:

Sl st into next dc and then into ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same corner sp, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp. 3 dc in next side sp between corner clusters, then in the next corner sp: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc – rep around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3.
Rnd 4:

Repeat the previous round by working 3 dc in each side space, and 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each corner. End with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.
Rnd 5 and beyond (Optional):

To increase the size of the square, continue in the same pattern: work 3 dc into each space between groups, and 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc into each corner ch-2 space. The square grows evenly and keeps its shape round after round.
Final Round (Optional Edge):

For a polished edge, work sc (single crochet) all the way around the square, placing 3 sc in each corner ch-2 space to help it lay flat.
Customization Tips:
- Change Yarn or Hook Size: Using a thicker yarn or a larger hook will give you a bigger square with a chunkier texture. Great for stool covers or cozy cushions!
- Color Play: Change colors every round to create a vibrant rainbow granny square or stick to two colors for a more classic look. Always change color just before completing the last dc of the round.
Join-As-You-Go (JAYG): If you’re making a blanket or larger project, you can join the squares on the final round using slip stitches or your preferred joining method.
