Stitching Instructions for Making the Mini Nesting Baskets Pattern:
Basket Base:
- With H hook and Color “Cream”, create a magic ring. (This creates a tight, adjustable loop to start the base).
- Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), make 6 sc into the magic ring. Pull the yarn tail tight to close the ring, and place a stitch marker in the first sc to keep track of the rounds. (6 sc)
- Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), 2 sc in each sc around. This will increase the stitch count, so you will have 12 sc at the end of the round. (12 sc)
- Round 3: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Repeat this pattern around the round. After completing the round, you should have 18 sc. (18 sc)
- Round 4: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. This round increases the stitch count to 24 sc. (24 sc)
- Round 5: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. This increases the stitch count to 30 sc. (30 sc)
Basket Sides:
- Round 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. No increases this round just continue making 1 sc in each stitch from the previous round. (30 sc) 8.
- Round 7: Switch to Color “Clay” (do not fasten off Color “Cream”; just drop it and pick up Color “Clay”). Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Continue with 1 sc per stitch. (30 sc) 9.
- Repeat Round 7 for additional rounds in Color “Clay” until the basket measures 1.5” tall, ending with a round of 30 sc.
Basket Top:
- Round 8: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around. This decreases the stitch count slightly. After completing this round, you should have 24 sc. (24 sc) 11.
- Round 9: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around. Continue the decrease pattern. After completing this round, you should have 18 sc. (18 sc) 12.
- Round 10: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around. This will decrease the stitch count further. After this round, you should have 12 sc. (12 sc) 13.
- Round 11: Ch 1, sc2tog around. This round reduces the stitch count to 6 sc. (6 sc) 14.
- Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail to close the top of the basket. Pull the tail through the remaining 6 stitches and tighten to secure.
Finishing:
- Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends along the sides of the basket and the top, so the yarn is neatly tucked away.
- If you’d like to add structure to the basket, cut a piece of plastic canvas to fit the base of the basket and insert it inside. This will help the basket hold its shape.
