Stitching Instructions for Making Tiny Carpet Coaster Pattern:

Foundation Row (Starting the Coaster)

  • Chain 24 (ch 24): Using Color 17 (Dark Red), create a foundation chain of 24 stitches. This chain forms the base of your coaster.
  • Turn Your Work: Once you’ve completed the chain, turn your work around to begin crocheting into the foundation chain.
  • Work 1 Single Crochet (sc) in Each Chain:
    • Insert your hook into the first chain (starting from the second chain from the hook), yarn over, and pull through. You should now have two loops on your hook.
    • Yarn over again, and pull through both loops. This completes your single crochet (sc) stitch.
    • Repeat this process for all 24 chains, so you will have 23 sc stitches (because you started from the second chain).
    • After completing the row, chain 1 (ch 1) to raise the height for the next row.
    • Turn your work to begin Row 2.

Rows 2-5 (Creating the Base of the Coaster)

  • Work 1 sc in Each Stitch Across:
    • In each of these 4 rows, continue working 1 single crochet (sc) into every stitch across.
    • To do this: Insert your hook into the first stitch of the previous row, yarn over, pull through, and yarn over again to pull through both loops on the hook. Repeat this for each stitch across the row.
  • Turn Your Work and Chain 1:
    • After completing each row, chain 1 (ch 1) to start the next row, which will help maintain the correct height.
    • Turn your work after each row to continue.
  • Repeat for 4 Rows:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch for a total of 4 rows (Rows 2, 3, 4, and 5).
    • After completing Row 5, you will change color to Violet (Color 13).

Rows 6-9 (Changing Color and Introducing Half-Double Crochets)

  • Change to Violet (Color 13):
    • To change color, fasten off Dark Red (Color 17) and join Violet (Color 13) at the beginning of Row 6.
    • To do this, yarn over with Violet and complete the first stitch of Row 6 using half-double crochet (hdc).
  • Work Half-Double Crochets (hdc):
    • For these 4 rows (Rows 6, 7, 8, and 9), you will work half-double crochet (hdc) stitches.
    • To make hdc:
      • Yarn over (wrap the yarn around your hook).
      • Insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over again, and pull through all three loops on your hook.
  • Start Each Row with Chain 2 (ch 2):
    • Chain 2 (ch 2) at the beginning of each row. This chain 2 will count as your first half-double crochet (hdc) stitch.
    • After the chain 2, work 1 hdc in each stitch across for the rest of the row.
  • Continue for 4 Rows: Work hdc in each stitch across for 4 rows. You should have 23 half-double crochets in each row.
  • Switch to Light Beige (Color 21): After completing Row 9, fasten off Violet and join Light Beige (Color 21) to start Row 10.

Rows 10-12 (Finishing with Single Crochets)

  • Change to Light Beige (Color 21):
    • To begin Row 10, fasten off Violet (Color 13) and join Light Beige (Color 21) by pulling the new color through the last stitch of Row 9.
    • Complete Row 10 using single crochet (sc) stitches.
  • Work 1 sc in Each Stitch Across:
    • For Rows 10, 11, and 12, continue working 1 sc in each stitch across the row.
    • Chain 1 (ch 1) at the end of each row and turn your work.
  • Repeat for 3 Rows:
    • Work 1 sc in each stitch for a total of 3 rows (Rows 10, 11, and 12).
    • After completing Row 12, fasten off the Light Beige yarn.
  • Weave in the Ends: Using a tapestry needle, weave in the loose ends of the yarn to secure them. Cut any excess yarn.

Adding the Fringe

  • Prepare the Fringe Strands: Cut 12-14 strands of each color (Dark Red, Violet, and Light Beige). Each strand should be about 7-8 cm (3 inches) long.
  • Attach the Fringe:
    • To add the fringe, fold each strand in half.
    • Insert your crochet hook into a stitch at the top or bottom edge of the coaster.
    • Pull the folded end of the strand through the stitch.
    • Then, pass the loose ends through the fold to create a knot.
    • Repeat this process across the top and bottom edges of the coaster.
  • Alternate Colors for a Decorative Look: You can alternate colors as you add the fringe to create a colorful and decorative pattern.
  • Trim the Fringe: Once all the fringe is attached, trim any excess yarn to make the fringe even and tidy.

Final Touches

  • Weave in All Loose Ends:
    • Use a tapestry needle to carefully weave in any loose ends from your work, especially from the fringe.
    • This will prevent any unraveling of the yarn and keep the coaster neat.
  • Trim Any Excess Yarn: After securing all the ends, cut off any extra yarn to make the coaster look polished and complete.

Your Tiny Carpet Coaster is now complete! The pattern creates a textured and vivid coaster, perfect for adding a handmade touch to your space.
