At the completion of Rnd 18, you must add stuffing to the head. Polyfill or extra yarn may be used for stuffing.
- Rnd 19: sc in each st around (16)
Following Rnd 19, you will begin the strap. To start the strap, squish the head closed and carefully line up the remaining 16 sts. Crochet through the very first two stitches, then the next two stitches, and continue this technique to the end until the head is closed and you have 8 stitches across.
Strap (S)
The strap connects directly to the closed portion of the head.
- Rows 1 – 50: Chain (Ch)-1, sc in each st across. (8)
- Alternatively, you can continue this pattern of Ch-1, sc in each st across until the strap is about 9″ long.
- Once the strap reaches the desired length, Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Feet (Ft) (Make Two)
The pattern instructs the user to make two feet.
- Ch-9.
- Slip stitch (sl st) in 2nd chain (ch) from hook (hk) and sl st in the next stitch.
- Ch-3, then sl st in 2nd ch from hk and sl st in the next stitch.
- Ch-3, then sl st in 2nd ch from hk and sl st in the next stitch.
- Sl st up the beginning (beg) chain.
- Be sure to leave enough yarn for sewing.
Ears (E) (Make Two)
The pattern instructs the user to make two ears.
- Rnd 1: Magic circle. 6sc in circle, pull tight. (6)
- Rnd 2: Sc in each st around (6)
- Rnd 3: Sc in next st, 2sc in next (9)
- Rnds 4 – 10: sc in each st around (9)
- Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Construction (Con)
Once all pieces are complete, they must be assembled.
- Make a white pom pom using whichever method you prefer. The pom pom is used for the tail.
- Using an upholstery needle, add the legs (feet) on the outermost stitches of the strap.
- Add the pom pom to the center of the strap.
- Pinch the ears in half and sew them together.
- Sew the finished ears to the top of the head, around Round 2.
- Add the eyes (using two buttons or safety eyes if the bookmark is for a small child).
- Add a small triangle pink nose.
- Add a few lines using black worsted weight yarn to delineate the mouth.
The bunny rabbit bookmark is now done.
